obelisk
Night falls over nothing down the funnel while we work our way around the point.
At which the mosquitos are really too much to bear and so you must keep walking,
Around.
Around.
I wish I had not seen the lights first now the thing seems much darker,
Than the Indian couple with an empty stroller between them, still walking, I’d like to stop to ask if the mosquitos bother them too, or can they not bite through the jeans. But the father is holding a son to his chest while the daughter is holding the mother.
Hand in her hand, the boy meets my eye as I turn back behind them, then back to the obelisk and I forget all about the lights set on the ground because for the country’s great size this thing is really not that big.
Relatively speaking.
Light reflects off the marble and into her eye while she asks me a question.
“Did you hear what I said?”
No, but please tell me again. Hands wrapped together and I love when she tells me things twice.
